This is a song by William Bell from his album "The Soul of a Bell."
Subsequently, it was covered by the Byrds in a country version on
"Sweetheart of the Rodeo" and by Otis Redding on "Otis Blue." I can't
connect to alt.music.byrds but if someone else wants to send it there,
that's cool.

[Intro]
G C G

[First Verse]
       Em G
In the beginning, you really loved me
          C G
But I was blind, and I could not see
             Em C
But when you left me, oh how I cried
                    G
You don't miss your water
D G
Till your well runs dry

[Break]

[Second Verse]
I was a playboy, I could not be true
I didn't believe, I really loved you
But when you left me, oh how I cried
You don't miss your water
Till your well runs dry

[Repeat First Verse]
